Hypnosis

“Even with little understanding of how it works, hypnosis has been used in medicine since the 1950's to treat pain and, more recently, as a treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, irritable bowel syndrome and eating disorders.”  ~ New York Times, November 22, 2005.

Think of driving on a routine trip, one that you have made many times. Every day you go the same route and pass the same exits but do not remember seeing the signs. Your eyes are wide open, and you can respond appropriately to normal traffic activity, such as people changing lanes and blowing their horns…You can respond appropriately. You are daydreaming.

Your local State Police may refer to this type of daydreaming as “highway hypnosis”. It is natural and perfectly safe state of mind. You are in full control, aren’t you?

Daydreaming is a form of natural hypnosis.  It is characterized by focused concentration, relaxation, lack of movement, and an increase in sensory reception.

Hypnosis is a widely accepted method for helping people make changes. Clinical Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic process designed to create an altered state of consciousness which stimulates the relaxation response and enables the mind to become suggestible.

How Does Hypnosis Work?

This relaxation response allows the creative parts of the brain to take in  the suggested images thereby altering the visual, auditory, kinesthetic and the intuitive perceptions.  These, in turn, stimulate change. The effectiveness of hypnosis is directly related to the ability to influence or persuade the unconscious mind

 How Can Hypnosis be Useful?

The list of benefits that can be attained through hypnotherapy covers ever facet of life.  Some examples of how you can benefit from hypnosis follow. But this is only a sample.   Essentially every aspect of life is influenced by the unconscious mind.   If something is influenced by the unconscious mind, it can be influenced through the process of hypnosis. For example through hypnotherapy you can:

·        Increase relaxation and eliminate tension.

·        Prepare for surgery

·        Enhance health

·        Lose weight

·        Stop smoking

·        Improve your ability to heal from surgery

·        Increase focus and concentration.

·        Improve memory
